Its been many many years and yet....
Something happened few days back and I found it funny(little), yet made me think about few things.
One of my colleagues(when he was happily munching on Diwali snacks made by me) asked me if indian food needs 4-5 hours per day to get cooked. He couldn't ask me whole question in one stretch because he was busy selecting between laddo and burfi.
I thought it was a funny but I couldn't laugh. I mean, why such (wrong)curiosity? I myself am here in USA for last 9 years and I know(for sure) that many indian people were here before. Each and every(again almost every) small village has at least one indian restaurant, where main audience will be non-indian. and then there are so many websites about indian recipes. and off course lots of Asian shops carry indian food items.
It made me more confused that how can you ask such ignorant question. India is not an alien place(anymore). you can see indian faces everywhere, in offices, in shops, in schools, in clinics even on TV. and yet some people think......
and its not only about cooking time. there were many more questions like why do you put red dot on forehead. Actually, this used to be my favorite question but that was when asked by small kids from elementary school. When my colleague asked me, I said part of my make up.
It made me realize that though the world has become a smaller place or (more specific)internet has made the world a smaller place, you cant ask everything to google. well, Google is not an indian married woman who (btw) cooks and shares her lunch with her colleagues.
